Thanks for the writeup & critique. I overlooked resizing when I added in the "subscribe" section to the sidebar. Whoops :) Thanks so much for catching this — It's now fixed.

Hamish and Kevin, thanks for the compliments.
I hope to get a chance from Kyle for another review despite not many comments on this one ;-)

I hadn't seen this website until I was proofreading the article yesterday. I was immediately impressed, however. The grunge look is something you don't see very often, and even more seldom is it done well.

I love the titles of articles and the written-out form of the date. These two minor things really add a level of class to the design that makes the grunge style look professional as well as interesting.

I'm not a fan of the ampersand, either. I think it is a really good idea, I just don't care for the one he chose. I don't begrudge the technique, but I don't feel that this particular ampersand flows well with the rest of the design.

Nice review, Vivian. I hope to see more from you.

@Wolf: But the website is targeted at designers. Otherwise your argument is on spot.

Great review Vivien. I hadn't seen Rob's site before, but it's a real gem indeed.

Picking on a small detail, but such is the nature of internet comments:
I absolutely don't agree with the 'use the nicest ampersand possible' rule. The Baskerville ampersand in the sidebar will make many people (except for designers) wonder what it is, since it's set in such a small font size. This interrupts the reading flow badly.

When used in a heading with significant font size (as in the famous Simplebits example) most of this argument fades away.
