Gapers Block is a shining example of imaginative web typography. A well deserved profile, indeed.

Love the site by the way (typesites, not GB). I just found it via Smashing Magazine, and have already added you to my feed. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the heads up, Alfonso. When writing this review, I wasn't aware that the headlines were set in Lucida Fax. I don't have it installed on my Mac, which is why I mentioned Georgia in the article. I can see why they chose Lucida Fax over Georgia, though. It looks great!

On first click I wasn't a big fan. It has issues issues creating dominance and nothing immediately draws me in. However, the real problem I discovered is that while most of the website is center aligned or at least spans the full width, the top navigation is left aligned and only spans a bit over half the width. This puts too much weight on that left side and throws off the balance of the design.

However, looking at the site in bits and pieces through your article, there are lots of great details.

Is that really Georgia in those article titles? The eye-sore bold titles are definitely Georgia, but the article title on that third screenshot is definitely not Georgia.

OK, I just took a quick look at the CSS and found that it's Lucida Fax, which —in all honesty— I had never even heard of. I think it looks gorgeous!

Cripes, that's a lovely site. I would go so far as to say that it's better than the New York Times, in my humble opinion. Though I agree with you that it's more than a bit inconsistent---it seems a bit shabby in that respect.
